Foodie Day Trip: Family-Friendly

Breakfast

If you are headed off on your first family excursion and need something grab and go, stop into Belair Donuts for coffee and some of the best, made fresh daily donuts and other specialty-baked products. If you are in hurry, save time by ordering online (online orders must be made the day before). Tip from a local: get the Cro-Do, which is a deep fried and perfectly glazed croissant. These go quickly, however.

If you and your family have more time, you can sit down in a relaxed atmosphere at That Flippin’ Egg for a tasty breakfast. The menu has something sure to please everyone. The adults should try a signature skillet or one of the Eggs Benedicts. For the kids, they are sure to love the Younger Yolks breakfast platter with pancakes, one egg and bacon or sausage.

Lunch

After working up an appetite while biking at Savannah Rapids Park, head into a local favorite, Pizza Joint. The Pizza Joint specializes in pizzas, strombolis, calzones and oven baked sandwiches cooked in a traditional brick oven.  They also offer a variety of salads and appetizers. Our suggestion here is a small spinach salad and a slice of Chicken Diane for the adults. Grab the kiddos a slice of pepperoni pizza.

If you’re looking for something quicker but still fresh, stop into Wife Saver. Wife Saver has been a local favorite since 1965 and they serve up quite possibly some of the best fried chicken in the Augusta area. A family favorite is the chicken tenders, the amazing mac and cheese, and as the commercial says “the only green beans my kids will eat.” Wifesaver has two Columbia County locations: Evans and Grovetown.

Dinner

Eli’s American has an upscale feel in a family friendly environment. Here you will find low country inspired menu items, like our favorite shrimp and grits. They also have American classics with a southern twist like the customer favorite Dixie Burger. Top your night off with the deep fried Southern Pecan Pie or mosey on over to one of our night cap suggestion for a family fun way to end your evening.

Nightcap

If you decide the fried pecan pie is not your thing, you are still in for a treat at Pelican’s SnoBalls These are not your run of the mill sno-cones. We give you the SnoBall, a New Orleans style shaved ice. You start with a cup of ice shaved as fine as snow and then choose from over 100 flavors. Flavor choices include cherry, strawberry, lemonade, and some unique choices like dill pickle, birthday cake and cantaloupe.

Have you ever heard of rolled ice cream? No? Well then hurry on over to Frosty Rolls to try this newest dessert trend. First, choose your ice cream base. Next, you chose your favorite toppings and finally, the frosty rolls crew will mix it up and roll your creation into a beautiful piece of rolled artwork. It’s almost too pretty to eat…almost!
