School’s out, the sun is shining, and the kids are already saying it: “I’m bored.” But there’s no need to travel far to turn up the fun. Columbia County is full of kid-friendly adventures that make it easy to fill your family’s summer with memories.
Whether you're chasing thrills or just looking for ways to keep the little ones entertained, consider this your summer playlist of adventure.
1. Splash Zone Anthem
Cool off at one of Columbia County’s splash pads, a perfect way to beat the summer heat. Visit Evans Towne Center Park, Memorial Gardens Park, or the mega splash pad at Gateway Park. Each location also features a large playground for extra fun after everyone dries off.
2. Walk on the Wild Side
Explore nature and learn something new at Reed Creek Nature Park and Interpretive Center. Take a walk along the boardwalk and enjoy views of the wetlands, then stop inside the center to meet animals and check out hands-on exhibits. It’s an ideal mix of outdoor fun and education.
3. Ride Like the Wind
Saddle up at Hilltop Riding Stable on Fort Eisenhower for a horseback adventure your kids won’t forget. From pony rides for beginners to scenic trail rides for more confident riders, Hilltop offers something for every age. The stables are open to the public, so no military ID is needed.
4. Rock the Wall
If it’s too hot or rainy for outdoor play, take the kids to Active Climbing. This indoor climbing gym offers walls for all skill levels and even has a ninja training zone for teens and older kids. It’s a fun way to get moving and burn off some energy.
5. Go With the Flow
Paddle your way through the scenic Serene18 Paddle Trail, one of Columbia County’s most unique outdoor experiences. If you complete all five routes, you’ll even earn a free t-shirt. Get your Serene18 Passport at Serene18.com and start charting your course.
6. Escape the Ordinary
Challenge your family to an interactive experience at Mastermind Escape Games. Work together to find clues, solve puzzles, and unlock the room. With different themes and difficulty levels, it’s a fun way to bond and boost your kids' problem-solving skills.
7. Paint Your Heart Out
Let your child’s creativity shine at Artsy Me Evans and Artsy Me Grovetown. Kids can choose a piece of pottery, paint it, and have it kiln-fired to keep as a memory. No appointment is necessary, and with two locations, it’s easy to fit into your summer schedule.
8. Reel Time Treats
Take advantage of budget-friendly movie days at Evans Cinemas. Every Tuesday, all tickets are only $6. Even better, the Summer Kids Show Series features family-friendly classics for just $2. It’s a great way to enjoy a cool, relaxing break.
9. Swing into Summer
Introduce your kids to golf at Bartram Trail Golf Club. Whether they want to practice on the driving range or try a few holes, it’s a great way to enjoy time outdoors. For something different, try disc golf at the International Disc Golf Center at Wildwood Park. Their friendly staff and beautiful courses make it easy for beginners to join in.
