  • Pay: Competitive wage of $14.00 per hour
  • Hours: "As needed" basis with potential shifts available Monday through Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for promoting Columbia County and Georgia as a tourist destination. Aids travelers in planning routes, addresses needs of travelers, and maintains records of travelers to maintain state certification. This person will be able to work independently. The Representative will keep the center in a neat condition.

Work will be performed inside and outside of Columbia County Visitor Center.  Employee will occasionally be exposed to cold or inclement weather.  Work is performed standing, stooping, and sitting, bending, walking, crouching, lifting and moving objects weighing more than 20 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office setting.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, residents and tourists.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Direct telephone calls to proper person or department.

Meets and greets visitors to the center in a courteous, professional manner. Offer information to promote tourism to Columbia County and Georgia.

Receives and signs for packages, forward to appropriate person.

Make periodic checks of the premises to inspect for cleanliness, proper maintenance and security.

Stays updated with tourist-related data with information on travel industry, new brochures, maps and promotional materials, on a regular basis.  Keeps accurate list of tourist sites and other frequently requested information.

Logs brochures in and maintains stocked racks. 

Maintains a clean and orderly Visitor Center.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Flexibility to work six days a week at different times.

Skill to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Skill in the use of modern office procedures and equipment.

Must have strong customer service skills.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent. One year of full-time experience in customer service, in which one worked and communicated with a wide variety of clients and customers to satisfy their expectations

Ability to problem solve and effectively resolve any issues that could reflect poorly on the County as a whole.

Knowledge of Columbia County and Georgia (Manufactured products, tourist services, destinations, history, and natural resource): experience with customer service.

Possession of or the ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license.
